Pressure Vessel & Piping Technical Chapter
This Month's Meeting:
April 11, 2001 (Wednesday)
Fabrication of specialty alloy (Titanium, Tantalum, Zirconium) vessels
(Presentation followed by shop tour)
Speaker :
Rocky Kuykendall Phoenix Metallurgical
Phoenix is an engineered product fabricator specializing in titanium, zirconium, tantalum, and other reactive and refractory metals. In addition to these materials, Phoenix works with duplex and super duplex stainless steels, high silica stainless steels, Hastelloy 'G', 'B' and 'X' series materials. The primary markets for Phoenix are in the heavy chemical industries. However, due to growing environmental and corrosion concerns, in addition to maintenance expenses with plants and operations around the world, there is greater usage of higher alloy type materials in the more typical applications. Due to the extremely high cost of these materials, many of the standards and "rules of thumb" used for carbon and stainless steel design applications become cost prohibitive when applied to these materials. Phoenix does not have any principal product line such as heat exchangers, pressure vessels or towers, but all types of equipment when fabricated from reactive or refractory metals.
