Skokie Valley Subsection to dissolve
Your Unit Operating Board (the “SVOB”), at the
last planning meeting, finalized the decision to request dissolution of the
Skokie Valley Subsection, to be effective on 01 July 2009. This decision
culminates about five (or more) years of debate and discussion among the several
iterations of the SVOB. The decision was not reached easily but is believed to
be in the best interest of engineers throughout the Metropolitan Chicago area
and especially so for those who belong to the Chicago Section and its
“daughter,” the Skokie Valley Subsection.

Skokie Valley contributes to Midwest flood relief
The unusually heavy rains of this past spring were devastating to many in
the river valleys of the Midwest. Members of ASME Skokie Valley
showed their concern for the larger community by making a $300 grant to support
relief in the Midwest. The Skokie Valley grant was matched - $0.50 on
the dollar by The McCormick Foundation – bringing the total support, distributed
by The McCormick Foundation, to $450. Click here to

FY2008 Report
Skokie Valley has submitted its required fiscal report to its parent,
The Chicago section, for submission to ASME International. It contains both the
detail of receipts and expenditures for FY2008 and a statement of the unit’s
fiscal condition.

Program Planning underway
The Skokie Valley Operating Board identified a number f target topics for
programs for FY2009. Efforts are underway to secure the necessary speakers for
technical meetings and approval for tours. The topics are timely, of technical
interest, and were selected to appeal to both ASME and sister society members.
Watch this page for the details as they develop.
Final Skokie
Valley budget set
At the recent planning meeting, the Skokie Valley Operating Board
adopted the unit budget for FY2009, which began on 01JUL2009.

Member renewals statements
coming ASME has begun sending out e-mail
statements for membership renewal. You may also receive a ‘snail mail’
statement, if you don’t respond quickly to the e-mail. Please don’t forget that
support by ASME Internation to our parent, the Chicago section, is reduced and
that Skokie Valley receives no society support. You have the opportunity
to support Skokie Valley by marking the renewal form and sending a few
extra dollars. Last year, Skokie Valley members contributed $795
(averaging just over $1 per member) to support unit programs.
Employment Opportunities for
engineers In spite of the retrenchment of our
economy, each month we receive a few requests from employers and/or recruiters
for engineers of various specialties and experience levels. Some, but not all,
of these opportunities require relocation.
Go the the employment opportunities page.
Serve your local ASME unit
It will soon be time for the nomination and election of officers to serve
the Chicago Section for the next term. (Recall that after FY2009 there will be
no Skokie Valley unit.) You are encouraged to submit your candidates
for consideration by the Nominating Committee. You are also encouraged to
consider personally volunteering to assist the section on any of its several
committees.

the list of officers and committees and their responsibilities.
You don’t have to be the Vice-chair of a committee!
