REPORT:

Twenty members, student members, and guests attended this en'light'ening presentation.  The food was excellent.  We thank the SDSU ASME Student Section, and particularly its Chair, Skip Howard, for co-sponsoring the event and making the arrangements for the facility.  Scripps Cottage was very quiet and easy to get to.

PRECISION LIGHT MEASUREMENT INSTRUMENTS

Dr. Richard Austin, President of Gamma Scientific, will present the technology behind precision light measurement instruments from high-accuracy photometers and spectroradiometers to integrating spheres and NIST-traceable light sources.  These instruments are used to measure LEDs, CRTs, night-vision displays, or highway signs.  The meeting, co-sponsored by the ASME student section at SDSU, is scheduled for Wednesday, November 30, 2005, at SDSU’s Scripps Cottage.

Social mingling starts at 5:30, with dinner from 6:00 to 7:00, presentation from 7:00 to 8:00, followed by questions and answers.

Dinner is a catered Mexican Fiesta Buffet including beverage and dessert
.  Cost is $20 for members and guests and $15 for university student members.

RSVP by emailing Tom Frankie or calling Tom at 858-481-1785 by Wednesday, November 23.  No-shows will be billed.

See map of Scripps Cottage on the SDSU campus.  Here is a printable version of the entire campus (pdf).  Scripps Cottage and Park is Building 41, west of the Love Library (Building 54) and east of Parking Structure 4 (Building 82).  It is located at the bottom of a sloped lawn and has a turtle pond directly in front so it should be relatively easy to find.  The best place to park is Parking Structure 4 or Lot W.

Driving from Interstate 8:  Exit College Ave and go south towards campus, turn right (west) at light which is Canyon Crest Drive, follow this road about 3/4 mile to stop sign.  On the right is Parking Structure 4, on the left and below is Lot W.

Park in Parking Structure 4, take the pedestrian bridge through "West Commons" (food court) and about 100 yards on the right will be Scripps Cottage.

From Trolley Station:  from the SDSU Stop, head left towards the Aztec Sundial/Monument, go right and follow the walkway till you come to a lawn on your left.  Scripps Cottage is at the bottom of the lawn next to the turtle pond.

Look for student members marking the path the day of the meeting.  Feel free to call Skip Howard, the SDSU ASME Student Section Chair, if you are getting tired of touring the campus.  Skip's cell phone number is 760-207-9029.
