VACATION IN SPACE?
On January 25 Mr. Jeff Hickerson
of SpaceDev Inc. will discuss the development of hybrid rocket
engines for the propulsion of space vehicles designed to put civilians
into space. These hybrid engines are a combination of solid and
liquid fuels. Usually the solid is the fuel and the liquid is the
oxidizer. SpaceDev provided this type of engine to power Burt
Rutan's SpaceShipOne, the first manned civilian craft to reach
space. (Mr Rutan is now under contract with Virgin Galactic to
design a passenger carrying spaceship. Virgin Galactic is taking
reservations for the first flights which are expected to cost $200,000
per person.)
The dinner meeting will be held at the Carlsbad Seapointe Resort on
Wednesday, January 25, 2006. Social mingling starts at 5:30, with
dinner from 6:00 to 7:00,
presentation from 7:00 to 8:00, followed by questions and answers.
Dinner is Prime Rib, Potatoes, Vegetable, Salad, Dinner Roll,
Coffee, and Dessert. Cost is $30 for
members and guests and $20
for university student members.
RSVP by emailing Tom
Frankie or calling Tom
at
