TOUR OF SPACE AND NAVAL WARFARE SYSTEMS CENTER (SSC San
Diego)
Space and Naval Warfare
Systems Center San
Diego (SSC San Diego) is the U.S. Navy's research, development,
test and evaluation, and engineering and fleet support center for
command, control and communication systems and ocean
surveillance. SSC San Diego is one of four field activities of
the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR). SPAWAR and
its systems centers provide much of the tactical and non-tactical
information management technology required by the Navy to complete its
operational missions. Although known by other names such as NEL,
NOSC, and NraD, SSC San Diego can trace its roots back to June 1, 1940
as the Navy's first West Coast laboratory. It is headquartered in
San Diego with detachments at Pearl Harbor, Guam, Japan, and
Philadelphia. The Center employs 3,700 civilian and military
personnel, the majority of them engineers, scientists, and technicians.
Several projects of specific interest to Mechanical Engineers will be
highlighted on this tour which is scheduled for
Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at 1:45
pm. The tour will be limited to 15 attendees on a fist-come,
