Science Applications International
Corporation (SAIC) was
founded by J. Robert Beyster, Ph.D., and a small group of scientists in
1969. SAIC and its subsidiaries now have
more than 44,000 employees with offices in over 150 cities worldwide. SAIC is a leading provider of scientific,
engineering, systems integration and technical services and products to
all
branches of the U.S. military, agencies of the U.S. Department of
Defense
(DoD), the intelligence community, the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security
(DHS) and other U.S. Government civil agencies, as well as to customers
in
selected commercial markets.
The Security and Transportation Technology
(S&TT)
Business Unit is headquartered in Rancho Bernardo, Calif. just north of
San
Diego. S&TT is one of the few SAIC
business units that offers products as well as solutions directly to
government
and commercial clients (see www.saic.com/products/security
). S&TT’s product selection includes
VACIS® gamma ray and high-energy inspection systems, sensing and
classification systems, and railway and
road systems. Additionally,
S&TT offers a wide range of integrated
intermodal solutions that integrate these and other products
for
many applications in a variety of environments across a broad spectrum
of
customers. S&TT is currently providing products and solutions for
customs
authorities, shipping and trucking companies, port and terminal
operators, U.S.
and foreign military, emergency first responders, law enforcement
agencies, and
all sectors of the transportation industry.
S&TT has facilities in several cities around the
world. The tour of Rancho Bernardo will
include the new product development center for the cargo inspection
products. The tour will start with a
brief conference room session to introduce the facility, product line,
and safety
and other requirements (no cameras, please). We
will then proceed through the building discussing
ongoing work,
ending up at the test lane in the rear of the facility.
Here the group will see several new or
existing cargo inspection products at or near completion, including the
Mobile
VACIS, Military Mobile VACIS, the VACIS P7500, and more.
The meeting location is at 16550
Rancho Bernardo Drive, San Diego,
92127. SAIC is in Building #5, located at
the rear of the site
(see map). Parking
is allowed anywhere on
the north side
of the building and is free.
