The tour was limited to 10 persons and only 8 of the 10 showed up.  Gen-Probe showed their Tigris analysis machine which is the primary capital equipment used for running their genetic tests out in the field (hospitals and clinics).  They gave us a good overview of the difficulty in running sensitive genetic tests and the complexity of the machine.  Also described was the interaction between the scientists developing the genetic tests and the engineers trying to develop it into a viable automated field test.  They showed us the test labs and gave a tour of the facility.  No pictures were allowed past the lobby.  Here is the group picture.

TOUR OF GEN-PROBE, INC.

Come tour Gen-Probe's facility on Mira Mesa Blvd. Gen-Probe Incorporated is a global leader in the development, manufacture, and marketing of rapid, accurate, and cost-effective nucleic acid tests (NATs) used to diagnose human diseases and to screen donated human blood.
