TOUR OF LOCKHEED MARTIN SPACE SYSTEMS
Come tour the Lockheed Martin
Space Systems Tank Assembly facility where Atlas booster and Centaur
propellant tanks are manufactured using a very innovative steel balloon
architecture initially developed for America's first operational
ICBM. The primary manufacturing process is resistance welding of
stainless steel. Other items on the tour include: Stretch
Forming, Laser Cutting, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Non
Destructive Testing (X-Ray and Dye Penetrant), Process Control, and
Pressure Testing.
The
tour is scheduled
for Wednesday, February 8, 2006, from 6:00 pm to ~7:30/8:00 pm. ATTENDEE MUST BE A US
CITIZEN. A government issued ID with
picture (e.g., driver's license) is required to tour the
facility. You will be
turned away if you forgot the ID.
The
facility's address is 4297 Pacific Highway, San Diego,

Meet at the security gate on the east side of the pedestrian overpass.
DIRECTIONS:
From I-5 Southbound, after I-8 take the Old Town Ave exit, go straight
onto Hancock St, turn right onto Witherby St, veer to right onto
Pacific
Highway, move to left to exit onto Barnett Ave, turn right onto Midway
Drive, turn right onto Enterprise St. Park close to the
pedestrian overpass.
From I-5 Northbound, take the Pacific Highway exit, go about 1.5 miles,
move to left to exit onto Barnett Ave, turn right
onto Midway Drive, turn right
onto Enterprise St. Park close to the pedestrian overpass.
