TOUR OF SAN DIEGO SUPERCOMPUTING CENTER
Come tour the San Diego Supercomputing Center (SDSC)
located at UCSD. Founded in 1985, the SDSC enables international
science and engineering discoveries through advances in computational
science and high performance computing. SDSC operates powerful
high-end computing resources led by DataStar, a 15.6 teraflop IBM
Power4+ supercomputer with total aggregate memory of 7.3 terabytes.
DataStar is ranked among the top supercomputers in the world and is
used for large-scale, data-intensive scientific research applications.
SDSC serves as a critical IT partner to large scale projects in life
sciences, geosciences, engineering, and other disciplines. SDSC
researchers collaborate on projects ranging from cellular signaling to
earthquake effects to preserving large and irreplaceable data.
The
tour is scheduled
for Wednesday, April 19, 2006, from 2:00 pm to ~3:30 pm.
