MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

We kicked off the program year in September with a tour of Pine Jog Elementary's innovative Green building design (LEED Gold Certified facilities). Gary Pirtle & Matt Mahoney from Pirtle Construction along with Michael Linden from JLRD Consulting Engineers were all gracious enough to host the tour and highlight some of the details involved with the construction of this cutting edge school. Last month we toured Stork East-West Technology in Jupiter where David Lichtman & Jeff Lucas walked us through their extensive 55,000 sq. ft testing facility. Our section members thoroughly enjoyed learning about Stork's testing capabilities ranging from simulated earthquakes to aircraft engine bird strikes.

We are looking forward to a variety of events in the upcoming months. Our first dinner meeting of the program year will take place early in December where Steve Beckel from Alliant Techsystems (ATK) will be speaking on the topic of Advanced High Speed Propulsion. This is sure to be an interesting presentation for interested in aerospace technology, so be sure to sign up early! Prior to breaking for the holidays we will have a section get-together at the Sailfish Marina in Singer Island. Please come out and join us for appetizers and great company!

To start off 2010 we have lined up a dinner meeting on the topic of investing. Guy Colella from Colella Wealth Management Group will be discussing investment planning strategies for these difficult economic times. In February we will be celebrating Engineers Week with another great event. Please stay tuned for further details.

Thank you to our Executive Committee and all of our section members for their continued participation and support! We look forward to seeing you soon. Have a safe and happy holiday season.

Daniel Belotto
