Abstract
The presentation will introduce the research activities on hybrid air foil bearing technology applicable to environment-friendly turbomachinery in oil-gas fields, aero-propulsion engines, and various types of fuel cells. The research activity is at the presenter’s laboratory and projects were funded from US air force, private companies in Korea, and State of Texas.

Bio

Dr. Kim received the BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University in 1991 and 1993, respectively.  From 1993 to 1999 he was senior research engineer at Samsung electronics and Renault-Samsung motors (former Samsung motors).  He received the PhD in Mechanical Engineering from UT-Austin in 2004.  He was an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University from 2004 - 2008 and has been an Assistant Professor at UT-Arlington since 2008.  He performs research in oil-free air foil bearings, rotordynamics, aerodynamics of turbomachinery, high temperature fuel cells, and micro power generation.
