“MAXIMIZE CAPITAL EFFECTIVENESS”
Standardize & Automate to Eliminate Wait & Waist
by
John Fish
John Fish of FB&D
is on the Board of Advisors for the Construction Industry Institute (CII)
and works closely with PIP and FIATECH, sister organizations of CII
promoting standardization and automation respectively. John will
provide the membership with an overview of what these organizations are
doing to improve safety, cost, schedule, and quality for our industry.
John is also
the chairperson of the CII Community of Practice for Implementation of
Front End Planning tools developed by CII. This community is in the
formation stages and we are hoping to get some Gulf Coast participation
to share ideas for improving our ability to plan and forecast projects.
This will be an informal discussion of some of the tools developed by
CII, FIATECH, CII, and NIST to establish standards that are the base for
automation.
Some of standards & tools:
·
Piping
Specifications - 162
·
Valve
Catalog - 905
·
Machinery Specifications
·
Vessel
Specifications - 25
·
Steel
Standards - 44
·
Use of
RFID Tags for Construction and Maintenance
·
Global
Valve Cross Reference eCatalog (GVCC)
·
Lean
Project Delivery Systems – Eliminate waste in our delivery systems
·
Integrated Information/automation Systems – Transfer of lifecycle
information to owners
These are just
some of the tools developed that can help us to Maximize Capital
Effectiveness. However, in every case, there are barriers to
implementation. The intent of this meeting is to provide an awareness
of these tools, discuss the issues and look for opportunities to
implement small steps that will lead to major improvements in project
execution and capital effectiveness.
Come to the meeting and see how you can
help to reset our industry standard of productivity and quality.
