CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

I am sending this notice out to all members of the Memphis Mid-South section to announce that I will no longer be able to serve as chairman after this fiscal year.  I have served this section for three years and feel like it is time to focus my efforts on my family and my career.  I will step down in June and will pass the torch on to whomever will rise to the task.  I will be happy to serve as an advisor and mentor to the section as needed going forward.

I have lived in this area and been active with the section for the past four years.  I have found that very few people take any interest in the section or it's activities.  We have over 200 members and 10 or less may come to a meeting or tour.  ASME as an organization has made the decision to stop funding any sections that are not active.  Any inactive sections will cease to exist and be merged with other sections.  This will be the future of the Memphis Mid-South section if there is not a renewed interest in it's activities.

I have done what I could in the past three years but the section cannot continue with only a handful of people at the helm.  I make this call to all members to become more active in our section activities and consider serving as an officer.  Being an officer rarely requires much time and offers a lot of opportunities for growth and development that look good on a resume.

It is my hope that this section can grow and be stronger than it is today, but it cannot succeed without your help.

Jeff Williams PE
