School
of Engineering students, participated in a Human Powered Vehicle
Competition sponsored by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers
(ASME) held in Blacksburg Virginia on May 17, 2002. The participating
team members are shown in the accompanying photo. Initiator and
mentor for the competition was Dr. Richard G. Weber, Associate Dean
of the School of Engineering and Chairman of the Fairfield
County Section of ASME.John
Pezzulo served as team leader and principal participant in the vehicle
races, propelling the Fairfield University entry to sixth place
in the East Coast Competition.The School of Engineering Human Powered
Vehicle was the product of the Senior Project Team. The team worked
diligently to prepare the vehicle for the competition. The design
team members were: Bobby Moisiadis, Darryl Pereira and John Pezzulo.
A senior project is a requirement for awarding of the Baccalaureate
degree.The design team was sponsored by: American Society of Mechanical
Engineers, Fairfield County Chapter, F.B.F. Machine Company, McFadden
CAE Services, Precision Wire Corporation, and Spectrum Plastic’s
Molding, Inc. A number of sponsors participated in fabricating components
designed by the team.The ‘2002’ Deans Award for the
most outstanding Capstone Project was presented to the design team
by Dr. E. Hadjimichael, Dean of the School of Engineering.The faculty
administering the Senior Project are: Prof. Alan Dubrow and Prof.
Patricia Earnest. Dr. Rao Dukkipati serves as faculty advisor.The
human powered vehicle, with design improvements, will again be a
Senior Project and it is planned that the School of Engineering
will again enter the ASME East Coast Competition for the year 2003. |
