The Coastal Bend Subsection was first organized in 1969. Headquartered in Victoria, Texas, the members are scattered throughout the counties of Aransas, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Matagorda, Refuge, and Victoria.
Although some of the members are in private practice, the bulk of the members are employees of Alcoa, Invista, DuPont, Equistar, UCC/Dow, Inovene and Formosa Plastics. These plants are the lifeblood of the cities of Victoria, Port Lavaca, Goliad, Edna and other surrounding towns and communities.
While small in member size, the subsection boast activities that rival neighboring Sections. The quality of Coastal Bend can be seen simply by looking at the multitude of times that the Thompson Traveling Trophy (TTT) has been won by this small subsection. Often times, the total TTT points earned by our subsection are in the top 5 of all sections, subsections and technical chapters throughout the Great International Southwest Region X.
We take great pride in being such an outstanding subsection, however, we consider our greatest achievement to be the scholarships that we are able to provide for our local high schools. Since 1985, we have awarded over $100,000 in scholarships. The bulk of our funding for these scholarships comes from our annual Mechanical Equipment Exhibit. Our exhibit is held each year during the month of October.
Thanks for visiting our site. We hope you will come to our next meeting and join the fun and fellowship. See our calendar for details about our next meeting.
