Rocky Mountain Power Gatsby Plant On May 22, next Thursday, we will be having a tour of the Rocky Mountain Power Gatsby Plant on North Temple Street in Salt Lake City. This plant has natural gas fired turbine generators as well as a natural gas fired steam generator. All of the power generation made at the Gatsby Plant is peak demand. Late May will be a good time to tour the plant when the equipment will likely be operating. The steam plant has a large furnace with multiple burners with sight glasses to see into the furnace. For those who have not seen something like this, the flame from each of the burners is quite impressive.
We will be able to go in the control room and see the operation of the plant, as well. They will be adding wind turbine control at this plant as well. In May, we may be able to see the control schematics of the wind turbines.
Open toe shoes are not allowed. Hard hats and safety glasses will be provided. Back packs or large bags are not allowed. The tour will take about 1.5 hours. Meet at the guard station near the building with the three tall smoke stacks.
Space is limited and several have signed up already, but we should have space for you. Please RSVP as soon as possible.
